Moncharm | Château Cos d'Estournel 2009
At Moncharm we think this is one of the most promising young wines, The Clos d'Estournel 2009 label is an unparalleled concoction of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon with the rest being primarily Merlot with a dash of Cabernet Franc. The wine has a relatively low 14.5% alcohol content but still maintains a pleasant pH of 3.69. The wine has an extraordinary black colour with a purple hue. The bouquet offers aromas of ink, creme de cassis, graphite, blackberries, incense and cedar. It is full-bodied on the palate with a well-developed texture, lots of surprises, it has a massive fruit presence and exceptional freshness. Though it has all the qualities to make it approachable at present, it will be on its peak after a decade of cellaring.
Château Clos d'Estournel's astonishing success is a result of the collective effort of the wine making aficionado Jean-Guillaume prats and owner Michel Reybier. The uniqueness of the wine comes right from the unique soil where the quality grapes are grown. The Clos d'Estournel vineyard is spread over a vast 170 acres and has a gravelly soil which promises the top quality Cabernet Franc. label
Neighbouring Saint-Estephe and Saint-Julien, the Pauliac region is a known for its exemplary wines and vineyards. It boasts three first growth estates and many legendary winemakers including Châteaux Lafite-Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild and Latour. It has a gravel-rich soil which allows the roots to reach deeper than all the other regions in Medoc, this adds an efficacious quality to the fruit and leads to complex and concentrated wines.
