Moncharm | Château Grand Puy Lacoste 2009
A brilliant blend of 80% cabernet Sauvignon, 18% merlot and 2% cabernet franc, Château Grand Puy Lacoste 2009 is a classic from the Grand Puy estate of Pauliac region. It has a flaming, dense purple ruby colour accompanied by an elegant bouquet of spring flowers, black currants, crushed rock, cedar and an earthy feel. The wine has a pleasant velvety texture and an unequaled finesse and purity. The wine is precise and according to our knowledge Moncharm would recommend a cellaring for at least two decades.
The Grand-Puy-Lacoste has a fascinating history with the family saga going all the way back to the 16th century. The estate was named Grand-Puy even in the middle ages. The 'Puy' in the name is an ancient term meaning a small hillock, true to its name, the vineyard is on the top of the outcrops with a terroir matching every first growth of the Médoc region.
Neighbouring Saint-Estephe and Saint-Julien, the Pauliac region is a known for its exemplary wines and vineyards. It boasts three first growth estates and many legendary winemakers including Châteaux Lafite-Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild and Latour. It has a gravel-rich soil which allows the roots to reach deeper than all the other regions in Medoc, this adds an efficacious quality to the fruit and leads to complex and concentrated wines.
