Moncharm | Louis Roderer Cristal 2005
The quintessential Roederer champagne, the Louis Roederer Cristal 2005 is lively and creamy, with an intensely rich bouquet. White fruits, yellow fruits and zesty citrus dance on the palate, accompanied by suggestions of vanilla, dried fruit, buttery caramel and hints of limestone, which stay on through the long and sweet finish. Moncharm would say this champagne is suitable to be drunk now through 2025, it’s not to be missed.
Louis Roederer is one of the finest producers of champagne in the world, hailing from Reims, France. It’s the only producer of Cristal champagne, a prestigious and altogether exclusive variant of the classic wine. Founded as Dubois Père & Fils in 1776, it was inherited by Louis Roederer in 1833, and named as such. It is also one of the few existing independent champagne houses, founded and run by a family.
The Champagne region is best known for its sparkling white wine namesake, a beautifully complex drink with fresh and fruity characteristics. Characterized by chalk subsoil and cool temperatures which give the wine its distinct flavor and acidity, the most grown grapes here include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
