Moncharm | Sassicaia 2005
A great effort by the Tenuta San Guido, the 2005 Sassicaia, is a brilliant young wine. The medium-bodied palate and the bouquet have subtle notes of smoked herbs, tobacco and sweetness of dark fruit. The harmony of the elements and the subtle, latent warmth that persists from finish to end, gives this label a distinctive position. Moncharm would recommend consuming this label can be anytime between now to 2025.
The Name 'Sassicaia'means 'a Place full of stones,' nothing can define the gravel rich terror of the Tenuta San Guido estate in a word. This terroir is ideal for the growth of Bordeaux variety of grapes. The vineyards were recently expanded to 75 hectares in 1960. With the expansion, came some state of the art machineries like special steel vats with temperature control and the latest French oak barriques.
Tuscany is the most revered wine regions in Italy. It is home to the following shining stars in the world of vintage, the cities of Florence and Siena, Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino Districts and the great Sassicaia, Ornellaia and Tignanello wineries. Tuscany is also distinct due to the indigenous grape variety Sangiovese, which is very apparent in the vintages of this region.
